Steps To Create Your Own Computer Network

For creating your own home computer network you require Ethernet cable wiring, Ethernet sockets and Ethernet plugs. Creating your own Ethernet network is not such a difficult process even if you do it yourself. With regard to these cable the benefits of doing it yourself is that you can customize the length of the cable as per your requirements.

For example, a 20 foot long Ethernet cable is not suitable when all you require is a two feet long wire. This article discusses the various steps involved in developing a strong working network:

1. The first step is to cut an end of the cable straight. After this strip the external covering about an inch from the end. If you possess a cabling tool it will prove to be a straight forward task. All you need to do is exert pressure, rotate the Ethernet cable and then slide the covering. If you are using Cat 5 cable then at the completion of this step you will have four pairs of twisted networking cables.

2. The pairs of uncovered cables will have one solid color and stripes. These colors could be blue, green, orange and brown. At this point the pairs need to be separated in order to create 8 different wires. You should then arrange the wires in a proper manner for inserting it into the plug. Cables that are flexed manually are easier to work with. Many wiring sequences are offered by cable. You can find the diagrams of most of these writing sequences on the internet.

3. The next step is to one by one insert the cables into the RJ45 plug. If the cables are of different length, then at this point you should make a straight cut across all of them. The moment you have inserted the wires into the plug, you must check that exposed wires are in contact of the copper elements in the RJ45.

4. Utilize a stripping tool for applying pressure on the Ethernet cable and its connector for making the connection durable. This can be achieved by holding the stripping tool in your dominant hand and the cable in the other. If required crimp the cable and connector a number of times to ensure good contact.

Hopefully the above mentioned steps can act as a useful guide for creating your own local area computer network using Ethernet cables. These cables are of various types ie. Ethernet Plenum Cable,
Ethernet Shielded Cable etc. By handling this cost effective method process yourself you will acquire a good understanding of your network.
